I'm noticing that my eyelashes are thinner, shorter and falling out as I age. I'm not too pleased with this. Dr. Oz said it's not age, but microorganisms (yuck). Any ideas on how I can get my long lashes back?
Dear Lash Deprived,
I had to do a bit of research into this Dr. Oz suggestion of microorganisms or 'lash mites'...and yucky is right! I will believe that they are a probability, but for the sake of keeping gross out of this post, let's look at another (and frankly more realistic) reason you might be losing your lashes - age. I don't know about you, but pretty much everything about my body is changing as I approach fifty, and that includes hair. Hormones wreak havoc during peri-menopause and menopause and thinning or losing hair is sadly one of the symptoms of this crazy train we're on. This includes lashes and brows. I've never had thick lashes, so I'm a slave to mascara and the thicker and darker, the better. But I was recently introduced to a all natural beauty product called Plume. Plume is a lash and brow enhancing serum that's formulated to encourage 'longevity and fullness' in lashes and brows. I'm about two weeks into use, but it takes about four to six weeks to really see the results of thicker, longer and fuller eyelashes. While on the pricy side ($95 for a mascara sized tube), Plume has recently been offered on TSC for $75.00. It's definitely worth a try.
And so not to completely dismiss Dr. Oz, my other suggestion is to remember to remove your makeup nightly. Nighttime is the best time for the skin on the face to rejuvenate. Wash off all the day's bacteria and go to bed with a fresh face. Use a good makeup remover to ensure all traces of mascara is eliminated and apply a good eye cream followed by Plume. Be gentle around your eyes in general - the skin is thin and tugging doesn't help with the loss of lashes and fine lines.
Good luck and let me know how it goes!
