Loco for Coco(a)
I love coconut. Toss me a Bounty bar any day and I'll be a very happy girl. I think it's because it reminds me of sitting on a tropical beach sipping a Pina Colada, so naturally gravitate to beauty products fragranced with coconut. Let's get one thing straight first, and that's the difference between coconut and cocoa. Many beauty products made with cocoa butter from the seed of the cocoa tree actually smell like coconut, while the coconut is actually the fruit of the coconut palm. So now that we have that out of the way...let's move on to my favourite products that definitely smell like coconuts whether it's cocoa or coco.
Many beauty bloggers write posts on their favourite drug store products. Vaseline Cocoa Radiant body lotion would definitely be on my list. I love the thick and rich consistency and the smell is amazing, but doesn't remain strong on the skin for so long that it interferes with any perfume I might apply after. I love taking this lotion on vacation for application after a day in the sun. It's inexpensive, so you don't have to be stingy with your application. Slather it on and your skin will stay hydrated and happy all day.
Sticking with the Vaseline family is Cocoa Butter Lip Therapy, also available at the drug store. I'm obsessed with lip treatments and this one didn't disappoint. The smooth texture and gentle fragrance leaves your lips kissably soft. And it's packaged in a cute little tin to boot.
I received a sample size of Revlon's Uniq One Coconut Hair Treatment in either my Ipsy bag or my Topbox. So sorry I can't remember which one, but it's an amazing product and I'm now on the hunt for a full size bottle. This leave-in treatment leaves my colour-treated hair silky soft and perfectly manageable. I've recently started to experiment with a curling iron again, so it's even more important that I keep my hair in the best condition possible so it can withstand the extra heat when styling.
I recently discovered Live Clean Coconut Milk Shampoo. This is a nice line of eco friendly beauty products at a drug store price. I'm one of those "wash your hair everyday" people, so it's great to find a shampoo that I like that's not loaded with chemicals.
So I'm cheating just a little bit here with the combo of mint and coconut, but I love mint too so I was super happy when I discovered this scent in the "Everyone" line. I find mint in the morning to be super invigorating in the shower (along with grapefruit), and the addition of coconut is super yummy. The Everyone line is available at Whole Foods, but if you're lucky, you can often find it for half the price at Winners, Homesense or Marshalls.
